Africa I Hear Your Sounds and I Am Humbled by My Own Fragile State of Being

Africa I sing for you.
I am fierce and you can't stop me. I am the lions roar I am the ghost in the desert unknown yet foretold.
I feel the day the heat on my skin and I breathe in the equality of being.
Sunset delivers a magnitude of unlimited heartbeats sunshines that do not pass beyond this heartbeat of mine. Dark on light evenings that upon a miracles call do somehow mysteriously last sublime.
I hear the roar I see the beast I understand it's prey and the very need of it. I am the ghost of all.
Majestic colors that meet the clouds calling out loud above the landscape where the whole entire world's singing can indeed sadly helplessly fall.
I am humbled I give in and although my own life if not lasting I do somehow beneath the dawning accept my own end because of its sheer magnificence I accept how fragile we are.
Ahh the puma calling out loud I embrace the dawns coming overlooking the land I am high on its magnitude and I am ohh so touched by it solace when I choose to stand still.
Give me life will you? Give me one more second to take it all in let me embrace the freedom of its very sovereign -hood
Trees on the landscape Africa abounds if we understand just how fragile it is. Seeing our own being our very own lives ohh so tempestuous within its fragile yet powerful sounds.
So dear fragile Africa continue to call out despite your unheard rounds. I want to tell you how sorry I think of you a lot within your struggle and time losBy Kathy Ostman-Magnusent.

Learn Art From Home - Some Free Tips!

The art industry will always be very in demand. Not only because everyone enjoys a good work of art, but because companies depend on creative marketing images to capture buyer attention. Advertising is arguably the biggest business in the US, if not the world, so the need for cutting edge and clever artistic images is always expanding.
The average starting salary for graphic artists starts around $15/hr and increases from there. About 63% of artists are self employed and many of them earn even more than salaried artists. Just knowing these figures is enough to make some want to run out and enroll in the closest art school. However, there is a catch-22 situation here. The better art schools out there (the ones you want to enroll in if you plan on making decent money), require you already have a bit of skill in visual art.
So what do you do if you weren't a child prodigy who knew they wanted to go into this industry from the age of 5? Well there is still time and hope to learn art from home! The first thing I did was jump online and search for art lessons. These lessons range from basic shape drawing and lighting, to figure and detail drawing, painting, and much more.
Any medium you decide you want to work with has some lessons out there. Learning the basics is the most important thing to do and can be done relatively quickly. From there, you can branch off and decide what medium to work in, what your personal style is, how you want to use your art, etc.
Most people start off not really knowing what their own style is. So you start off by drawing everything from forest and urban scenes to apples on the counter. I tried cartoon, comic, classical, realistic, and even art nuevo styles before I settled on my chosen genre.
I could make this article last for days by giving you tips and pointers for getting started but here are the two simplest, yet most important:
1. Start with the basics. No matter how trivial or boring they may be, they are essential for creating a solid foundation that you can later manipulate over and over.
2. Don't be afraid to try! Try anything, learn whatever you can. Any style that interests you should be looked into. If you later decide it's not for you, that's totally fine. But you will never grow if you don't try.
Many times, people learn art from home and are ready to get started earning income without going to school. However, I always suggest it simply as a starting point. It's no secret in this world that those with degrees earn more than those without, and that goes for almost any industry. So once you've decided what you want to do with your art and have a good foundation, THEN go and enroll in a school. Be sure to research schools to get a good one and don't just enroll in the cheapest closest tech college. The training you'll get in a better school will be WELL worth any extra cost.By K. Sokolov

6 Things I've Learned About Art Licensing in My 6 Years

The 2009 SURTEX Show marked my 6th spring exhibiting my art and pursuing licensing as a business. When I walked into my first booth at the Licensing International Expo in 2004, I was so nervous I wasn't sure I would make it through the day. Would my art be well received or would I have flown across the entire country and spent thousands of dollars to sit alone in my booth? Self-doubt, nerves, excited anticipation mark the beginning of most shows although now the confidence factor is big and self-doubt a fleeting thought I have learned to kick to the curb.
During these years, we've had quite an interesting economy. The stock market has plummeted, stores have closed, huge companies that last year seemed untouchable face closing their doors. But you can't watch the news and sit in a state of fear. Life must go on and business is still being conducted. Many artists who have been licensing their art for 10, 15 and 20 years are lamenting the changes in the way business is done and the size of royalty checks. But we are in the CURRENT economy, not that of 15 years ago. So how do you work TODAY?
So after my 6th show, I thought I'd share six bits of wisdom that have kept me moving forward.
Be true to your art... Don't try and be something you aren't artistically. Know what you are good at, what you love and what seems to "flow" for you. Trying to be the next isn't the way to go... be the next YOU!
Watch your pennies... I think Benjamin Franklin was on to something. Being in business doesn't have to mean being in big debt. Yes, you will need to invest in your business when you are starting but manage your investments. Do you need a website that costs thousands to have someone design when you are starting? No. Get a free blog to show some of your work and style and grow as your business grows.
Watch your time... How are you spending your time? Be sure to check yourself occasionally. As you work on art, or marketing or other things around the studio ask yourself, "Is this activity going to bring in income or am I avoiding something else I should be doing?" It is amazing how the mind can make you decide something is urgent when what you are really doing is avoiding something hard or scary.
Keep a positive attitude... Ever notice how people who always expect bad things to happen seem to get just that? One drama after another. So keep your mind focused on where you want to go and celebrate every step along the way. There are so many small successes along the path of building a business, don't belittle them. Get good feedback about your work? Sit and pat yourself on the back for a few minutes. Be your own best cheerleader and you will have a lot more fun and stay inspired.
Stay in touch with the market... Licensing your art is creating art for commercial purposes. Your art is used to sell someone else's product. So you do need to balance your own creative vision with what is selling in the stores. Keep your eyes open for what you see on the shelves, in magazines, etc.
Have fun... Even though Ben Franklin was onto something with the pennies, I'm not as hip to the saying, "It wouldn't be called work if it was fun." Hogwash! If you are in business for yourself, why shouldn't you enjoy it? Life is short, work is a big part of it, so make it something you love. Yes, there are parts of running a business that you don't like. But guess what? Your 'yuck' jobs will be someone else's fun job. As you grow, outsource the things you dislike - I give you permission.
So those are my 6 core things I keep in the front of my mind as I build my art licensing business. I love what I do 98% of the time and have found very few people who can say the same. How awesome is that? I wish you the same for your business -- here's to your creative future!By Tara Reed

How to Make Pencil Portraits

The portrait drawing is an art and a technique. The beginner should first define the outlines of face of the person whose portrait is to be made. After the rough sketch is done, then you start adding the details. The next stage would comprise of the adding of the details in the eyes, nose, and lips.
These are the factors that make the face more and more identifiable with the original. The artists who have just started drawing recently should not worry about the dissimilarity found in the portrait and the real face, as it happens in the initial stage. As the practice of drawing increases that problem would be solved gradually.
It is customary to paint and draw the portraits of famous people and the celebrities. Before starting a pencil portrait of a man, woman or a child, just engage yourself with his or her eyes. Inspect carefully all the aspects of the eyes: the shape, the lower and upper eyelids, the pupil, the iris and the white portion. Carefully examine the shapes and shades of the lashes, the eyebrow and the portion of the eyes that catches the incoming light.
There are artists who prefer two traditions of making a portrait: drawing live getting the person before the eyes and taking the help of photographs of the person. While using the photographs as a base for the portrait, one must try understanding what the photographs of the person reveal. The visible characteristics of a person apparent on the photo should be incorporated into while drawing his or her portrait. Before doing the shading work or the putting some other advanced features onto the portrait, the artist must ensure that proportions of all the aspects of the face is truly incorporated. Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, Portrait of Dr. Gatchet by Vincent Van Gogh , The Cliffs at Etretat by Claude Monet, The Arnolfini Portrait by Jan van Eyck. These are a few of the legendary masterpieces of oil paintings from the 16th to the 19th centuries that modern society still enjoys.
Lest you think that you cannot make oil paintings of your own, then you have another think coming. You can make your dreams of being an oil painter a reality by starting to know the basics - the ABC - of the art form.
Art Supplies
Before you start oil painting, you will need to gather your art supplies and accessories about you. This way, you can paint unimpeded by forgotten objects, faraway supplies and fiendish painting problems, all of which can anger your inner muse.
• A sketchbook to draw your preliminary themes and images.
• Oil paints in var ious colors. These are made of powdered pigments coming from manmade and organic pigments, which are then mixed with a binder to dilute them into the desired painting consistency. If possible, opt for the higher artistic grades as these are longer lasting albeit more expensive.
• Oil paint brushes of all shapes and sizes - rounds, brights, fan, filberts, micro, scripliners and flats.
• Canvas for the final products, which can either be linen or cotton.
• Painting mediums that are used to dilute oil paints, which can include linseed and poppy oil as well as turp.
• Palette and palette knife to mix your oil paints.
• Easel to prop up your canvas.
• Other accessories like rags, brush washes, apron, rubber gloves and mall stick.

Sell Paintings Online With a Unique Concept

With the power of the internet it is possible to sell paintings online but there are some methods and concepts that are a little more easy and lucrative than others.
Of course finding a technique that suits your artistic flare is the key here. Any method of selling your work online will only work if:
1. You enjoy it 2. Its simple to do 3. The income reflects the effort you put in.
Many of us know the usual methods to making money online as an artist. Most of this is down to the use of personal websites that act as an online gallery. Also we are well aware of the methods of selling paintings directly on platforms like eBay.
But what is the unique concept that will allow you to paint, sell and create an income from the internet?
Well let me run through a story of a college student who pioneered this method.
A long long time ago in a land far far... NO OK here it is.
There's a college student who isn't actually an art major, he just likes to paint. Mostly just simple work too. No elaborate life stills or portraits. He discovers a site that sells images to web designers, website owners and just about anyone that pays a dollar to download the work in digital format.
He figures that he can paint unique logos, images and pictures that would suit some of the buyers. So he contacts the company, they say that "once he is registered he can submit digital images of his paintings" and earn from it.
Like the other artists and designers on there he will get a commission every time one of his paintings is downloaded by a buyer.
But how do you create digital paintings? Simple. Our college student in question took a picture of each of his paintings with a digital camera. Uploaded them to his computer and then submitted them to the website.
The website acts as an online middleman. They do the marketing, they find the buyers, they pay you commissions on time. The good sites charge a tiny fee to register but it is often below $30 and its a one off. Don't pay anything that's too pricey, there's no need.
Our student then painted, snapped, submitted and actually began to create an automated income. Some of his paintings were downloaded multiple times a day so you can imagine how the income can become regular and in cases very interesting.By Richard Rowley

The Secret of Art Investments

As the owner and curator of two art galleries, I have dealt with thousands of pieces of art and hundreds of artists. I focus on spotting emerging talent and the success of the gallery is a testament to having the most promising artists who are performing very well despite a depressed economy.
The goal is to find artwork that you can enjoy and see rise in value. If you buy a Rolex watch you don't expect it to be worth more in several years time. This is where buying art may surprise you. People who bought a Geoffrey Keys or Liam Spencer ten years ago for £400-£500 will have not only enjoyed it for several years but will be able to sell it on for £4000 - £5000 today. In anyone's eyes that is a great return on your money.
Spotting and buying the next big name isn't as difficult as you may think. If you want art as an investment as well as for pleasure there are relatively simple factors you need to look into to determine who is the next artist to make big gains in their artworks value.
1) Do you love it? - First and foremost, art is bought for personal enjoyment as well as being an investment. 2) Do your homework - What stage is the artist at in his/her career? Look at the history of past exhibitions. Make a judgment on these exhibitions, are they gaining in number and/or importance or does their career look like it has peaked already. Be aware though as fund managers state, "Past performance is no guarantee of future success". 3) What Galleries represent the artist? - Without gallery representation an artist is highly unlikely to become established and build a following. Are the galleries reputable and are they putting time and effort into their name. Look at publicity and google their name for associated articles. 4) Meet the artist - An exhibition preview will have the artist on hand to chat to customers. Do they have ambition and a desire to reach the top? How committed are they and can you see them painting in many years to come? 5) Consider a payment plan. Expensive pieces of work can be paid for over a year or sometimes 2 years. The easiest way to handle this would be to give the gallery a series of post dated cheques. Any good gallery would be willing to discuss more flexible payment terms. 6) Advance investments - Generally in an artists' collection there are 2 or 3 pieces that are highly sought after at the preview. Galleries may be reluctant to admit that they are willing to accept an advance to enable you to work up the pecking order but this is commonplace. Make sure you have any agreement in writing and obtain receipts.
The more you spend the more likely it is the work will hold or increase its value. You are buying into an artists name so much of it depends on whether the artist and the gallery are pushing for recognition and publicity.
In following these guidelines anyone can spot great emerging talent. If you are still undecided then simply ask a gallery who they think represents the best potential. If you haven't stated a preference of artist then you will get a straight forward reply which can help your decision.
Happy Investing.

How to Sell Art - What to Do When You're Ready to Say "Sell My Art Work"

Do you consider yourself a Monet or Picasso just waiting for your work to be discovered? It can be very stressful being a starving artist if your passion is your art, but you aren't able to make a living at it. Yet you may not have even investigated or researched how to sell your art.
There are many venues and opportunities for artists to explore to get the word out about their work. Before knowing which venue might be best for you, there are a few steps to take.
First you need to develop your own unique artistic identity. Think of this as branding yourself. How do you wish to be known. You must have a memorable and recognizable identity before you worry about how to sell art.
You should also set goals for yourself. What do you want to accomplish with your art. Is it a hobby or lifelong passion in which you intend to make a full time living. Determine the answer to that before you try to find out how to sell your art.
You should determine the target market for your art. What are their demographics? Of course, you aren't limited to your local area alone these days because, with a web presence, you can easily use the reach of the internet to even learn how to sell art online.
Don't rely only on the internet, however, as it can be very impersonal. You will also wish to network with other artists and galleries in order to become a serious and successful artist.
One thing you will most certainly need is patience. If you are committed to your goal, don't give up and be sure to give your artistic expression time to blossom.
After you've done all of the pre-planning as outlined above, set goals and established your brand, then you can move ahead with the marketing and learn how to sale your art.

His Most Famous Painting (The Bellelli Family) - Edgar Degas

itter.com

Painter, sculptor, printmaker, and draughtsman Hilaire-Germain-Edgar Degas was born on July 19, 1834, in Paris, France. The progeny of a high-flying banker, Edgar Degas' childhood was set in an affluent family. Subsequent to completing secondary school, he decided to take up a career in law. Later on, in 1855 he switched gears, joining the esteemed École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Here, he got the opportunity to study under Louis Lamothe, who himself was a student of the 'Classical' artist Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. As per his belief that travelling would help his training in art, Edgar Degas visited Italian places, such as Rome, Naples, and Florence, very early in his career. He intended to learn and to reproduce the art of 'Renaissance' pioneers, such as Sandro Botticelli, Nicolas Poussin, and Andrea Mantegna. At this juncture of his career, one of the heralds of 'Impressionism,' Degas skilled himself at drawing family portraits, reflected most remarkably in "The Bellelli Family."
"The Bellelli Family" or Family Portrait is one of the most famous canvas oil paintings by Edgar Degas, as a youngster. He visited Florence, Italy in August 1858. Inspired from his Naples visit, the painting is a family portrait of his Italian aunt Laura Bellelli, who was pregnant then, her husband Baron Gennaro Bellelli, who had been exiled from Naples (his hometown), and their two young daughters. The scene is set in the mid-century parlor. The room authentically has a fireplace, with a mirror, a clock, and a drawn picture frame of Laura's father, gracing the wall. Degas painted "The Bellelli Family" in his studio at Paris during 1858-60.
Laura Bellelli is shown in attire, symbolizing the mourning for her deceased father. Her expression is decorous, dominating, and stern, similar to that of her daughters. While his eldest cousin Giovanna is standing with her mom, Edgar's younger cousin Giulia is sitting, sporting a youthful gesture and is probably looking at her father. Both the sisters are wearing black dress with white pinafores. Baron Gennaro Bellelli looks aloof from his family, reflecting his then subdued and insignificant entity. He is shown seated in a black armchair, half-turned towards probably his younger daughter and most of his back towards the viewers.
A work of genius by young Degas, the portrayal evokes the stress of each member of the family. None of the four characters is looking at each other. Everyone's gaze is fixed in different directions. Owing to this obviously reflected family discord, the painting was publicly shown in 1918 only, after the demise of every character shown in "The Bellelli Family." The daunting dimensions, the sober colors, the intentional use of open perspectives (doors and mirrors), all combine to escalate an ambiance of oppression. Hued mostly in black, this one of the first splendors of 'Impressionism,' "The Bellelli Family" carries dull shades.
After the successful completion of "The Bellelli Family," Degas returned to Paris in 1861, and shifted his interest to 'Biblical' paintings. Coveted amongst ardent art patrons, the Salon eventually noticed his work. This celebrated, annual, state-owned art exhibition brought him his well-deserved fame and money. A financially sound Degas was either ways devoid of the paucity that befell most of his contemporaries. Although, his 'Historical' and 'Biblical Art' was a huge sensation, Edgar Degas ended up choosing themes that were more contemporary. His urge to portray the pulsating life around him took him to the racetrack. He pictured horses, jockeys, and well-heeled spectators in his racetrack paintings. Later, he began to depict ballet dancers, which eventually turned out to be his most celebrated subjects. His technique was unique, with a strapping incline towards draftsmanship, oeuvre, and portraiture.
After 1870, Edgar's vision began to fail him, turning him to 'Figurine Sculpturing.' He packed his bronze statues of horses and ballet dancers with the same style of grace and lyricism, as did his paintings. Completely blind towards the end his life, Edgar Degas died a lonely eccentric on September 27, 1917, in Paris. The National Gallery of Australia's exhibition, 'Degas: The master of French art,' displays an assortment of Edgar Degas' art, from his early portraiture and historical ones, to modern themes, and finally to his experimental paintings and photographs in the 1890s. All said and done, Edgar's 200cm x 253cm frame, "The Bellelli Family," stays as the best milestone and is currently displayed at the museum Musée d'Orsay, Paris, France.By Annette Labedzki

Alternatives to Facing the Future

Some people find it hard to face the future: they prefer to live in the past, or at least, that part of the past which they really enjoyed. That's OK, though. Some people can make a good living out of their nostalgia.
Artist Lawrence Cassidy is used to making the most of things. When he saw that his local High Street clothing store was shutting up shop in Manchester, England, he walked in and asked them to give him the plastic coat hangers that they had planned to throw out. They offered him two huge cardboard boxes, full of unwanted hangers. They would be ideal for his new show, he explained: he had a series of blown-up photographs and the prints would look great dangling from string, in lines, from the coat hangers, high up on the walls of the exhibition space. The new 'installation' opened in Salford in February 2008.
A year before, Lawrence had mounted a show at Salford Museum and Art Gallery. That mainly consisted of family photographs that people had given him and old maps of the area, but the unique feature was a series of road signs, abandoned when that part of Salford was being redeveloped recently. Lawrence had approached the men working on the demolition project and they were happy to save the street signs and let him take them away. They missed some of them, so the artist went back in the dead of night and prised the plaques off the walls of the collapsing buildings himself. It's probably not legal, he agrees, but they're vital relics of bygone days, he says, and need to be saved.
Is everything that Lawrence Cassidy works with 'found' and saved? Not at all, he says. Most of the photographs, he points out, are domestic snaps, donated to him by interested families. He is happy to scan them on to his computer and return the family albums, once the contents have been added to his collection. He collects the views, it seems, and one day he hopes to build up a complete archive on the internet of all the vanished streets of East Salford, an A-Z of lost roads and buildings, most of them swept away in the widespread clearances of the 1970s. People like to remember those times, he says. Visitors to his exhibitions certainly seem to share his enthusiasm, and are happy to stay and chat, swapping stories with other people they meet at the shows. Sometimes people have even met up with old friends and neighbours, men and women they haven't seen for years. They happily remember the old days.
Why? What was so great about these former times? After all, the main focus of Lawrence's exhibition 'Retracing Salford' is on life in the 1950s and '60s. In those days there were street after street of tiny terraced houses, most of them with no inside bathroom, with small bedrooms that sometimes large families had to share. One couple admitted that they came from homes with eight or nine children in them, all of the family sharing a mere three bedrooms. How did they all fit it? Also, at this time, money was scarce and hard to come by. Food was adequate but not often plentiful. Sometimes people went hungry. And yet - The most remarkable thing to come out of the experiences that Lawrence is cataloguing is how happy most people claim to have been. 'Great times', 'Good Days', 'Happy Lives', are just some of the comments. So, in those simple times, before most families owned a television, let alone had a car in the household, people say that they were content and enjoyed life.
There's a huge lesson here for planners and politicians. Too many of these do-gooders seem to be still convinced that all you need for Inner City redevelopment is to demolish the tumble-down houses of yesteryear and replace them with new concrete and glass constructions. Once people have a new bathroom, they argue, they will be happy and content. It isn't true. It wasn't true in the 1970s, the last time that East Salford was 'improved', and it isn't true now. Still the old terraces are still being swept away and new soul-less blocks put up. Still the residents express dissatisfaction. Why is nobody learning lessons from the past?
The only way that ordinary people will ever be happy with the world they live in, is if they feel accepted by their neighbours, are known and respected, and live next to people in roughly the same social group. It's as clear as day, people like Lawrence Cassidy are saying. "People tell me," he says, "that 'we were all in the same boat'. They say, 'We were poor but we were happy'. It's clear what they mean." Some people don't find it so clear: they think that next year, if they get a new house, a replacement kitchen or a new model of car, they will find contentment. But these prospects don't make a future worth looking forward to. The people who were happy in the past were those that knew the people in their street, and felt as though they had a place in society. Every photograph they have saved, and every street sign they see, reminds them of those years, those 'Good Old Days'. It wasn't the assets they could count, but the friends they knew they could count on. Not the material goods but the friendships that made them feel good. If we can't see our lives developing in places that include other people who love and value us, then there's precious little of value in the future, and it isn't worth looking forward to. That's the lesson of the past.By Mike Scantlebury

Learning to Appreciate Difference - Story of Krishna and the Black Sheep

Change makes us reassess our life and sharpen our vision. Surprises test our principles and determination. Setbacks make us wonder if our efforts are worth anything. The stronger our fear of uncertainty, the more desperate our need to cling to the past.
Such were the questions that occupied Krishna's mind one summer morning, when he was meditating under a banyan tree near the river. He heard steps behind his back and the voice of Nadu interrupted his thoughts. "Long live the wise, Krishna," saluted Nadu.
Krishna opened his eyes and saw that Nadu was carrying a heavy black sheep in his arms. When Nadu set the sheep on the ground, the animal stared briefly at Krishna, found him uninteresting, turned around, and began to drink water from the river.
"My father is worried and has sent me to ask you for advice," explained Nadu, pointing at the black sheep. "We don't know how this has happened and we fear for the other sheep." Krishna looked at the animal, which had just started to taste the grass and looked perfectly healthy.
"One week ago, we walked out of the house in the morning and the black sheep was standing in the middle of our herd." Nadu shook his head, puzzled. "Of course, we had heard stories about black sheep, but we thought that they didn't exist."
Krishna stood up, walked up to the animal, and caressed its head. "At the beginning, we didn't give it much importance," Nadu went on, "but soon, strange things began to happen, like in the stories that we had heard."
The animal lifted its head and began to ruminate contentedly the grass that it had just eaten. "Does it bellow at dawn, while other sheep are asleep?" inquired Krishna. "Does it refuse to return home in the evening? Does it run away at the least opportunity and encourage others to join it?"
Surprised, Nadu confirmed all of Krishna's points. That was something unexpected. How come that Krishna knew so much about black sheep? "Will other sheep in our herd become black as well?" asked Nadu terrified.
"Tell me, Nadu," retorted Krishna, "is it not true that all sheep spend their lives in slumber? Is it not a fact that sheep never try to escape? That they always follow the herd without delay?" Nadu nodded, wondering where Krishna was headed with his questions.
At that moment, the black sheep turned to Nadu and stared at him impatiently. Why was it taking so long for Nadu to draw the obvious conclusion? A long silence ensued before Krishna spoke again. "The truth is, Nadu, that this animal is not a sheep," announced Krishna.
Nadu, instead of being shocked by the news, took the whole thing rather philosophically. He immediately accepted Krishna's offer to relieve him of the animal, ran back to his farmhouse, and informed his father that the problem was solved once and for all.
During the next hours, Krishna traversed the forest, followed closely by the animal. In the afternoon, they climbed a mountain and reached a green valley, where hundreds, if not thousands, of similar black creatures were placidly eating grass and having a great time.
When the newcomer joined the others, it was warmly welcomed. While the sun went down, Krishna observed the animals play. He didn't understand them and he didn't know where they came from, but of one thing he was sure. Those were not sheep.

Psychology Beyond Good and Evil

It's been a few days since I read in 'Beyond Good and Evil' since I decided to think about the implications of what I have read so far. The book makes claims about psychology and the nature of the unconscious mind. Nietzsche believes that one hides one's instincts and thus deceives him/herself, and the reason one hides these instincts is that the herd or slave morality which aims at the comfort and safety -and which is a result of fear rather than power- has evolved in each person, in other words he says that slave morality is the herd instinct in the individual. A person who frees himself from the herd and their morality does not deceive himself anymore according to Nietzsche.
When I thought about that, I found a striking similarity between that and something I read before about Freud who said that the subconscious or unconscious is a result of the individual trying to fit in society and appearing good according to the morality of society. This part of the human psyche Freud called 'super ego' and was the part that deceived the human mind and hide its instincts as the real motives behind the actions. Seems like both Freud and Nietzsche would agree that we only deceive ourselves for one reason, to fit in society's morality.
Nietzsche also speaks of the growth one achieves in solitude, perhaps this is why? because one learns to judge himself only and one no more needs to be measured, judged or defined by society? I also read a book about psychology which dealt with hiding feelings of hate and anger towards one's loved ones, this also fits in the model of unconscious of Nietzsche and Freud.
It is obvious that judging someone else with my society's moral values is done out of fear, I want these morals to apply to my neighbor to protect myself, otherwise why would I care? This explains why the herd is threatened by the individual that doesn't care about them or their morality. As society exerts this pressure upon each individual, and the individual in turn tries to fit in by deceiving himself into believing in this morality.
It might seem that Freud contradicts Nietzsche at one point, where Freud talks about repression, and that is when one represses one's desires because he/she is ashamed of it, while Nietzsche talks about instincts dictating what we do. But I believe there's no contradiction, because Nietzsche says that slave morality is the herd instinct in the individual, which means that repression of instincts itself happens by means of an instinct, the herd instinct in the individual which Freud calls 'super ego'.
'Me memory says I did it, my pride says I did not, at the end, my memory yields' Wrote Nietzsche in one aphorism. Later Freud would talk about memory repression, which is somehow managing to 'forget' something about the past on purpose and hiding it from the conscious mind in the unconscious realm. Another similarity I found.
I believe the greatest test this theory of Nietzsche and Freud passed is the fact that everyone is against it, since it predicts that society and our herd instinct or 'super ego' would not like psychology beyond good and evil. My psychologist gets angry at the mention of Freud's theories which I used to ask him about, and the one time I talked about Nietzsche's philosophy, which I wrote about it earlier in my diary, he was even angrier as Nietzsche doesn't only state something about the human mind, but goes to ethical implications.By Amr Hima

Make Money With Art - How to Make Money With Art Online

Learning how to make money with art is something that has always been perceived to be difficult and hard work. Terms like 'the starving artist' are exactly what has come to be expected of the industry. With the incredible power of the internet is it possible to start earning from your artwork?
Quite simply put it is possible. But you do have to think a little differently to find the most profitable methods. Now if you are the kind of artist that is not moving with the times, hey that's fine. But the method I am going to write about is one that will exploit your work and perhaps change some of your perceptions. Maybe even some of your artistic morals will be slightly threatened.
Yes, if you aren't moving with the times and utilising the internet to sell some of your unique pictures then don't read on.
I am not talking about eBay - Effective but time consuming. Even the packing and shipping part of it takes all the fun out of it for me. I don't think I would do that for 6 figures....Well OK for 6 figures I probably would.
I am also not talking about owning and running your own website. Yes this too is a great method. It can be like owning your own online art gallery, but you then have to spend half of your time marketing your website so that people and buyers will actually find it and buy from it.
Now this is the juicy bit. This is the bit that certain artists just don't get, they understand it can change their lives but its almost as if they don't really want to make money from their passion, who knows. If that's you DON'T read on.
I am going to break this up into steps so its really simple to understand and visualize.
1. Create some artwork, a sketch, a painting, anything even a photo. 2. Find an 'art agent' site. 3. Register with the website. 4. Scan and upload your artwork. 5. let them market your work and find buyers. 6. Let a buyer download your artwork for say $1. 7. Split the profit with the agent website. 50 cents each. 8. Keep your copyright, keep the picture, keep it on the same site for it to be downloaded again and again. 9. Create some more artwork. 10. Upload and keep repeating the process.
100 downloads, 100 x 50 cents = you do the math.By Richard Rowley

How to Do Magic Tricks For Fun - Making Yourself Fire Resistant!

Tricks with fire have always fascinated audiences. In this remarkable trick, the magician can place a naked flame and lit cigarette against his fingers without burning himself.
How It Looks To The Audience
The magician informs the audience that through years of training and meditation he has learned how to resist burning himself. To prove this, he lights a match and puts the flame under his fingers. He then takes a lit cigarette and holds it between his thumb and first finger, with the lit end against his finger. The magician shows no sign of pain and his hands can be examined.
How The Trick Is Done
Because this trick involves fire, it is strictly for adults and no one under the age of eighteen should attempt it. It should also not be shown to anyone under the age of eighteen. Please remember that matches and cigarettes can cause fires!
Part One
For the first part of the trick, no preparation is necessary. Just light a match and pass it backwards and forwards under your fingers. You should keep your hand relaxed and your fingers apart, which will allow much of the heat to rise between your fingers. The exact speed you move the match and the distance you keep it from your fingers is a matter of trial and error.
It is recommended that when practising this trick, you start with the match about four or five inches away from you hand and then experiment with moving the match closer. In this manner you will be able to work out the best speed and distance for yourself.
Part Two
For the second part of the trick, you need a little preparation. You will need an ice-cold glass of beer or a drink with ice in it. After you finish the first part, pick up your glass and have a drink. However, as you do so, press your thumb and first finger hard against the glass. This will have the effect of almost freezing your finger. You can then take a lit cigarette and hold it between your thumb and first finger without burning your finger.
The hardest part about this trick is building up the courage to do it for the first time. So, when your are practising the trick, try pressing your finger against an ice cube first (as that will be even colder than a glass) and then tentatively putting the lighted end on your finger. Once you have proved to yourself that it does not hurt, then try freezing your finger with a glass of water with a few ice cubes inside. If you build up your confidence in this way, then it will not be long before you can do it just with a glass of chilled beer or coke, which does not contain ice.
N.B. As with all fire tricks, there is always a chance that you could get burned while performing these tricks. In reading this article it is assumed that you are a responsible adult and that you are liable for your own actions. Therefore, the author or the publisher cannot be held responsible for any accidents or injuries caused to persons attempting to rehearse or perform these tricks. If you are in any doubt - then use common sense - and don't do it!By Michael Breck

Importance of Audience Participation on School Productions

College or university-wide theater guilds are not the only organizations that stage school productions. Ordinary students, who are not necessarily members of theater organizations, also conduct plays for different purposes. Students who are taking up subjects like oral communication or theater and dramatic arts stage productions for academic purposes, and there are those who perform during school events.
However, it is the participation of the audience that is most important in productions. Plays are considered successful if there are a lot of people who flocked in an auditorium to watch it. The audience serves as the evidence of the director and the actors in knowing whether a particular scene worked or not. When the actor shouts out a hilarious punch line, the audience should react by laughing. When the cast is faced with a suspenseful or horrifying scene, a gasp or a shriek from the spectators is a sound of confirmation. The reaction coming from the audience is music to the ears of the production's staff. The ticket sales collected from the audience's purchase also helps the guild in collecting resources for their upcoming productions. That is why to convince students and other people to watch the class or the organization production is important.
There are a lot of ways the students can promote their production to the public. One of the new ways that emerged is the utilization of the internet by creating a webpage specially made for the production. Just a simple site that will contain vital information about the play, like its play dates and times, venue, actors, a short summary of what the play is about, and the characters, is good enough. Other effective ways are to send text messages to students, use of the PA (public announcement) system of the school, and room-to-room promotion and ticket-selling. The traditional banner and poster printing still works too, so student should not forget to print posters and banners for promotion.By Louise G.

Acting As a Career

Acting is a prestigious career coveted by so many people. It's a broad title that covers a lot of different areas. You could be a Broadway actor, a comedic actor, act in movies, or even musicals. All of these take specialization in acting. Acting is also very versatile if you're good at it. You could start out as playing as one of the Massachusetts private investigators on a TV show and work your way up to a star role. If you are too proud to be known by the MA private investigators on a show, you may just have to stay persistent in going to auditions and talent scouts.
One of the most important parts of acting is getting proper training. Some people are born with the talent to act, but even they probably need some fine tuning. For those who aren't as confident, there is acting school. Acting school is an awesome opportunity. First of all, it will open up so many opportunities for an aspiring actor. Talent scouts and recruiters will most likely come to your acting school during your education there. Every time they come it is another chance for you to land a job.
If you can't do acting school there is always another way to train. Whether you can't afford acting school or are past the point in your life where it is even an option, there are other methods. Acting classes at night or on weekends are offered by a lot of programs. They usually run for ten week periods and classes are one to three times a week. This is a great opportunity for individuals who want to act, but have to continue working and living reality. It can allow dreams and real life to being to coexist.
The money made in acting can be enough to pull people to the profession alone. People often retire before hitting the age of fifty in this profession. This is not only because they are more than comfortable financially, but because they are past their prime. After a certain age, roles for older actors are not as available. A lot of less fortunate individuals who have a knack for acting see it as their chance to rise out of poverty. If you want to do this though, you have to have a lot of perseverance.
Acting can be tough, so if you want to do it you have to be tough as well. It is not a friendly industry. If scouts and actors think there is something wrong with you, they won't hesitate to tell you. There is a lot of pressure to look good and act well, and some people cannot handle that pressure. If you want to be an actor you have to start out with that thought in mind. If you go into it thinking it will be fun and easy, you're more likely to be discouraged. Always keep your goal in mind and love what you are doing and the work and beating you take from it will fall into the background.by Chuck R Stewart

How to Get Along With Aries, Taurus, Gemini

AstroMagnetism
As a student of Astrology since 1975, I have listened to all the party talk about this sign and that sign and what they seem to be like. Of course, most people are talking about their particular Aries, their most beloved buddy - Taurus, or their hated parent - Gemini. When you hear people talk about a sun sign, you are most likely hearing about two or three (at the most) intimate, close (hated or loved) relationships they had with those signs. That's fine. That's the fun of it, and that's our short hand way of figuring out our loved ones and also chatting about astrology. Since this is an art, along with the blending of astro talk and ancient texts which speak about the signs, there is no absolute fixity about this topic. However, there are elements of the sun signs which apart from subjective experience do tend to shine a light the way we manifest our characters in this earlthly realm.
The Point of this Article:
There are tricks to getting along. I emphasize getting along, and do not emphasize, the words persuade, dissuade, win and argument with, dominate or seduce. Those topics are for other times. Getting along is, in a sense, what life first asks us to do, and in a way, its the hardest thing we are asked to do, especially with certain sun signs.
I remember a date I had in college in which my date talked 95% of the time. I nodded, made sweet nonverbal grunts, chuckled and threw in looks of whimsy and lifted my eye brows a lot. It was a fun time, and I was not bored. I still remember it though, for the compliment I received. She said, "Chris you are such a good conversationalist." She did not say: "You listen well." That night I was "getting along". The effectiveness of my listening was that it was interpreted as talking. The point is to get along so that you will be viewed positively, and perhaps construed to be a different kind of person, maybe, than you really are. That's OK, social lubricants make the world go 'round. So, what I am trying to impart is that you want to "get along" so that you can be well thought of, and perhaps even positively reviewed as a friend, buddy, associate, subordinate or superior.
Aries - The Leaping Ram - "Enough of Me, Let's Talk About Myself" -
Aries feel the bursting energy of spring running in their veins. That energy is interpreted by the Ram as their very being. They are so full of energy, it is hard for them to disidentify from their own current. When they talk about themselves, and jump to the front of the line, and want first attention, it is just that their energy is overcoming them. It tingles in their nervous system. They are bright, and mount tons of first energy. However, they are not great finishers. They tend to be spent at the finish line. Getting along with them involves listening and waiting for them to move from one subject to the next, to the next, until they are done. This is not to say that all Aries are non-stop talkers. Some Aries are waiting to be heard, and very interested in filling up the air with stories that they have held back. See the Aries as yeah, there is that word -- hard headed. Those horns crack together in the sping air, sometimes just to hear the sound of the confrontatioin. So, don't get mad at an Aries, like you might a Scorpio. Aries can laugh. They are easy laughers and have basic amiability. So, while you are listening, you can also not take them too seriously. While you are getting irritated, they are moving on to another subject, so don't mount up a battle that is not going to happen. If you defy them however, they will fight you for the sake of it. So, don't choose defiance and don't get in a combative pose. They will get in a stance, dropping their head and moving toward you and make a move off of those back feet, and you can be on your "butt' before you know it. And then, they will be smiling --- cause it was kind of fun.
While you are listening a little longer than you want to, and patiently nodding as they talk about their favorite topic - themselves, your first moves should be apparently complying nonconfrontational and perhaps a reference to the Aries brightness or cleverness or energy. Getting along with an Aries has much to do with the what you don't do. First - do no harm. Reinforce their positions to let them easily establish themselves, then, make your points and get done what you need to be done, after the Aries is at peace and moving in the direction they want to. Then, as time passes a bit, their finsihing energy waning, they will appreciate your awareness that they might need some help or assistance. Enjoy Aries. Watch them, admire them and let their energy shine. Take advantage of their bursting energy. They certainly won't drag you down with incessant depressive talk. They are worth the "getting along" effort.
Taurus - The Laconic Bull - "Don't Mistake My Calm For Weakness" -
Whereas Aries can be a bit offputting at first, Taurus can be deceptively easy at first. Getting along with Taurus will seem to be quite easy. Taurus specializes in control of the outward. Thinik of the bovine contentment, chewing, digesting, enjoying the sun and mellowing out on the top of the hill. And then without much notice they will put that pointed hoof on the top of your toes and then pivot and tell you that they don't think that you should 1) take that from them or 2) boss them around or 3) assume that you aren't going to have to consult them.
Taurus is good at saving, setting up an agenda and sticking to it, gathering possessions and accumulating them and not talking a whole lot about what they are doing. With a sweet kind of "lowing" in their voice, they can seem to be so pleasant that they do not have an opinion or they are maybe not as sharp as you think they should be. Be assured that getting along with Taurus has to do with assuming that they are smarter and sharper than they look and that they have very powerful wills. Think of all the unassuming people you might have known in your life, are not many of them a "surprise" to you, after getting to know them?
The key to getting along with Taurus is NOT to take offense if after awhile they seem to "bowl you over" without really thinking about it. Don't get paranoid and start muttering to yourself about their insensitivity. Sure they are insensitive, but don't take it personally. When a bull slides its weight and moves you without a seeming care, remember, they do that to EVERYBODY. Getting along with Taurus lies in not taking that personally. Just remember they are basically sweet, and think of the first time you met them, not the way they are acting after you were supposed to be friends.
Gemini - Duality - "What You Think I Said Is Not What I Meant" -
Getting along with Geminis is really easy in the beginning;. Happy, conversational, apparently caring, and quick to respond to what you just said. Can hardly be more fun that to meet a Gemini the first time. But getting along with Gemini on a continuing basis has to do with a mood that might be little different than when you first met them. It might be a little sarcasm that you are not supposed to really take to heart, and a personality that might emerge that you never really observed before. Once you are a friend of a Gemini, its all those other elements that come out. Chatty, gossipy, full of lightning quick wit and almost a prescience for knowing what people are going to say, and then providing a clever rejoinder before the person is done talking.
Geminis can be easy to get along with but hard to keep on getting along with if you are keeping score. You have to let much of what a Gemini says and does just go by the wayside. A good forgetfulness might hold you in good stead. Often charm goes over the edge, cleverness turns into harm, merriment turns into silliness. These Gemini characteristics mean that their friends have to be consciously tolerant and realize that day to day, on a continuing basis, there is hardly any person or personality that is more fun and endearing than a Gemini. Getting along with a Gemini is worth the effort because of the Joy that they bring to the moment. That Joy tends to be fairy dust for everyone and thus they are worth the effort.
Their frivolousness and seeming lack of real concern or love for you is sometimes hard to take, but when you realize that they are probably just distracted trying to come up with a new way to say something or are thinking off in a kind of dream world, they are ultimately fun. When I say - "What you think I said is not what I meant", it is deliberately confusing. There can be a wispy cloudy kind of magical confusion in what Geminis say. Just keep going with the stream of consciousness and in the end you will marvel that what Geminis bring is the mercurial spirit. Every one is a bit mercurial, Geminis are just a little bit MORE mercurial than the norm.
The "Getting Along" Intuition -
I will cover the other signs in other articles, but the intuition involved in Getting Along with the various Sun Signs has to do with picking up from each Soul what is the main tune that they are playing. What is the main message beaming out of their eyes? Look for the core of what a Sun Sign is and then observe them playing their song and manifesting themselves in their particular unique ways. Once you have a fix on that, then ride along with them and appreciate them for what they are and see how it plays out in the external world. Then your patience conerning that perceived reality allows you to envelope them with a bubble of tolerance. This all ends up benefitting you, as you make your way through the field of human relationships. by christofer french

How to Make a Career in Acting

Have you ever stood in front of a mirror enacting a scene from your favorite movie?
Have you ever visualized yourself making the acceptance speech with an Oscar in your hand? I'm sure many of us have done that. But like a popular star of Bollywood quips, it's not just talent, its' also a matter of chance and that not all the talented ones get such chance. Hence, it becomes very crucial for the enthusiasts to avail themselves of the opportunities that come their way. In such situations, online talent communities are blessings in disguise for the talented people worldwide.
Here are three simple steps to make a career in acting:
RUB: Record - Upload - Build network
Record: Do not waste your talent. Select a movie scene (or just any drama or theatrical) that gives you scope to show your acting skills. Memorize the lines and understand the nuances of enacting the scene, such as costume, make-up, voice modulation, etc. Seek the help of a friend in recording the scene OR use a camera with the stand and adjust the focus, lighting, volume, etc. beforehand. Ensure you have good quality recording else your talent would go unnoticed. Rehearse the dialogues and go for a test run. If you are satisfied with the result, go for the final shot.
Upload: This is the most crucial step in the process. Select talent sites that have specific category dedicated to acting or your video will be buried under thousands of irrelevant videos on the site. Make sure the site is not the regular video sharing site but an exclusive talent portal.
Build network: A famous business tycoon once said, selling a product without advertising is like winking at a beautiful lady in the dark. She will never know you winked! You are trying to sell your talent so advertise. Tell your friends, relatives, neighbors, classmates and everyone you know to watch your talent and keep circulate it within their network. You never know. All roads may lead to Rome but your network could lead you to stardom!
Good luck.By Rohan Singh

Learn Model Poses That Will Get You Noticed

Learning to model is not a simple task but it can be very simple if you apply the right tools. To learn to model is to combine lots of dedication and hard work into weeks and months of hard practice to be noticed. Probably the hardest part of modeling is the poses. Posing means everything at the end of a runway or in an action filled picture. Your pose and your face say everything. Model posing can also be simple to learn but it takes a lot of hard work as well.
Throwing yourself into a position, quickly without hesitation, is not exactly easy. It takes a long time to learn how to get comfortable with your body and to learn how to move it into whatever a photographer tells you to move it. Model posing is difficult and it can look very awkward at first, but once you can learn the basic poses the job is simple. Basic poses consist of a lot of facial movement as well. While putting your face into an appropriate position, you also have to learn to move your body as well. Many people have issues when taking pictures where they think they are moving or making a pose, but really, they are standing still. This is not good, but it can easily be fixed.
One thing that helps when learning how to pose for modeling is to think of it like a dance. Think of it as still frames during a dance and each pose it like the middle of a different dance move. Try practicing with music on. The music gives you a specific rhythm to follow and that can also put you in the right mood to be comfortable posing. Model posing is much different from picture posing in that, as a model, you are capturing a moment, usually in the middle of it. Its not like a planned picture moment with a perfect smile, but usually like a story inside of a picture.
It can also help to watch other people strike a pose. In doing this, you are learning by observing and then you may be able to duplicate the move by yourself or even make it your own so that it is completely original. It is also a good idea to flaunt whatever assets you have. If you have a curvy tummy rather than a flat tummy, use your stomach to make your pictures better. Use certain angles when you stand do that your tummy is a good thing rather than a nuisance. The use of your body in different forms for pictures is extremely good for self-esteem and self-confidence issues as well.
Model posing is not extremely easy but it can be easy if you are ready to learn how to model. If you are ready to dedicate yourself and to work hard down a long hard through lots of difficult tasks, then you may just be all set for a modeling career. Even if it never works out though, don't be discouraged, it is an intimidating industry that can often be hard to transition to. By chuck R stewart

Art Prints - Claude Monet

Claude Monet was a French painter considered to be the initiator and foremost supporter of the Impressionist Movement in painting in 19th century France. The artist's style is best known for capturing pigmented "impressions" of nature and everyday middle class life known painted in "plein-air" or painting outdoors. Monet's works garnered much negative criticism from the classically realist and romantic school of painters of the French Ecole de Beaux Arts. Moving to Argenteuil, on the Seine river near Paris, Monet together with other French painters; Edouard Manet, Gustave Courbet and Camille Pizzaro established the height of the Impressionist movement by organizing an independent exhibition of the Impressionists. His painting, "Impression":Sunrise, 1872 gave the group their name.
His work and influence reached a very wide scale and was instrumental in spreading modernism in Europe and in the United States. His artistry influenced the work of post-impressionists and avant garde artists including Dutch painter, Vincent van Gogh; Fauvist painter, Henri Matisse; and French painter Paul Cezanne. His radical departure from the classical tradition resurfaced in the United States to be manifested in the abstract expressionist paintings of Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko.
Mone't best works leave much to be argued but some of his works are better known than others due to their reproductions as poster prints. Some of his most popular prints include:
• Le Pont Japonais a Giverny, The Japanese FootBridge, 1922- is a painting of Monet's famous Japanese footbridge. The bridge is located in the garden he constructed at his Giverny home towards the latter part of his life. Online versions of this painting can be found at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Poster prints onlinecan be ordered at 24x36" or at custom sizes.
• Impression, Sunrise, 1872- is the iconic painting that gained the Impressionist movement its exposure and popularity in France. Online poster printing offer to print this in 24x36" or custom sizes.By Seth Luca

Find Out If Your Baby is Ready For Modeling

There are many reasons to consider getting your baby into modeling. It's fun, it can help start your child's college fund or another special savings account, and it helps create wonderful memories.
However, modeling isn't for all babies - or their parents. Before you determine whether you want to introduce your baby to the world of child modeling, consider the following factors that go into it.
Consider Your Baby's Physical Appearance
All babies are cute - they're babies, after all! Some babies seem to have a universal look, suited for various kinds of photos and commercials, but remember that it's often the case not every baby's look is the right for every baby modeling assignment.
A certain print advertisement might call for small babies, or a particular commercial might want babies of various ethnicities. You might run into casting calls for babies with dark hair, or you might meet an art director who needs babies with blue eyes. Keep in mind that this isn't something you should take personally, nor is it something that should stop you from keeping your eyes open for future casting calls.
Understand Your Baby's Personality, Disposition, and Behavior
Babies are babies, and can't be held responsible for controlling their developing personalities, often ever-changing dispositions, and unpredictable behavior; yet, if your baby seems to love attention, feel happy, and smiles more often than not, he might be well suited for baby modeling.
Of course, you have to keep your baby's usual disposition and behavior in mind when it comes to other people and child models on the set. It's easier for others to perform and get work done in a peaceful, relaxing environment. Fussy babies don't lend themselves to creating that kind of environment, and you might need to wait a bit longer before trying to introduce your baby to modeling.
Consider Your Baby's Talent
If your baby is very young, it's generally more a question of whether his personality, disposition, and behavior are suited for baby modeling than it is whether your baby has talent. Young babies who are just learning to sit up and stand on their own don't have much more room left for thinking about developing "talent," right?
However, if your baby is old enough to take lightweight direction, it becomes a question of whether he is able to - or wants to - take that direction. Can your baby listen and respond to a wrangler's, art director's, or photographer's direction? If he can, does it seem like he wants to?
Think About Your Baby's Availability
Aside from time spent eating, sleeping, playing, and overall just being a loveable baby, your baby's availability depends largely on your availability.
Does your job allow you time to take your baby to casting calls and photo shoots? Do you have a spouse, family member, or trusted friend who can help out when you're unable to get away? How far away from the sets do you live, and if it's a significant distance are you able to travel with your baby to get there? These are the kinds of things you must think about when considering how available your child is for baby modeling. By Kelly Keenan

The Hottest in Polynesian Tattoo Designs and Ideas

People are always exploring new area and new ideas. Tattoos are no different and the people who like to get tattoos love to push the envelope. Therefore they are always looking for new designs and new ideas for their tattoos. Everyone wants something that is unique and different and artistically beautiful. Thus leads to a lot of new trends within the world of tattoo designs. Of course you have probably seen and noticed the pretty hot trend of tribal tattoos. Thus started way back int he early 90's and has just gained in popularity. Some would say it has been over done or is past. However, there are still tons of men and women getting tribal tattoo designs. More then anything the area has just adapted and changed and the styles of tribal tattoo artwork has become more irsh and varied. Instead of the sort of new age tribal tattoo design that really is a bunch of lines that don't go back to any tribe their is a search for more authentic designs. Many who are getting and inking tribal tattoo designs are looking back to the tribal roots. For example Polynesian tattoo designs which are true tribal designs have come more into light these days. People are looking for authentic and historical tattoos while putting a modern twist on them.
Below are some of the more popular areas where these hot Polynesian tattoo designs are getting popular and cutting edge.
Animals
Of course all native and tribal-based cultures have a deep connection with the earth and the animals that live with the earth. This goes all the way back to our hunter and gathering ancestry. The cave paintings of Lascaux and some of the earliest artistic expressions done by any human involved animals. Animals in tribal cultures are seen as gods or the gods are embedded into animals. The example everyone will know is the totem animal from many of the Native American tribes. The worship and deep fascination with animals can be seen in all tribal cultures and thus many of the tattoo designs also reflect this art form and a sort of animal worship. So if you are looking to get a truly tribal tattoo design you might want to think in terms of an animal and a totem or sorts that speak to you or an animal you feel a close connection to. For example a tattoo design for strength might be a bear. A possible design for living a carefree life might be a turtle. These animals can easily be adapted and integrated with most of the traditional Polynesian tribal tattoo designs.
Patterns
Another theme that is used frequently in Polynesian tattooing no matter the tribe or people are patterns. You see this in just about every sample of traditional tribal cultures art be it the Navajo woven rug patterns or the Hawaiian patterns seen in their clothing and textile designs patterns are a popular theme in all tribal culture. These can often make for a great tattoo.
Different Cultures
Keep in mind when you are thinking about getting a tribal tattoo you will want to carefully choose a tribe that represents something to you or a tribe that holds significance for you for some reason. There are a lot of different tribal tattooing traditions and the design can look very different depending on the tribe. Therefore you will want to pick the tribe first. Then you can start to pick the design. Some examples of prominent cultures that have deep ties with the tradition of tattooing are the Maori, Hawaiian, and Samoan cultures just to name a few.by Chris Ryerson

Forearm Tattoos - How to Locate Big Selections of Perfect Artwork

It's not just about pulling up a tiny collection of forearm tattoos. It's about yanking up big, high quality artwork galleries full of them. Nobody seems to be able to locate those better places, though. Instead, they end up getting stuck in the middle of galleries that post nothing but bad, generic junk everywhere. You can instantly change this around, though.
You change it by doing one very simple thing. You change the way you generally look for forearm tattoos. Doing this will ensure that you get to as much original, well drawn artwork as possible. Why would you need to make this change, though? You need to do it because just about everyone heads straight over to a search engine to pull up tattoo galleries. The only problem is that it doesn't work, because nothing comes up in their lists besides awful, generic laced galleries.
That's why the change is needed. Unless you like cookie cutter forearm tattoos, those lists will have nothing for you. Instead of using engines, you should be concentrating on using large forums. It's the fastest and easiest way to pull up so many of the hidden (and better) tattoo galleries around the web. The reason you can finally find these places is because of the huge amount of knowledge about tattoo art that can be yanked up from the archive section.
The big general forums usually have tons of topics about tattoo artwork and they are all accessible. All you do is dive in and take a look around. You'll be able to gather so many informative posts, where people talk back and forth about the awesome galleries they have somehow found. It's this type of hidden gallery that tends to take a lot of pride in posting fresh, high quality designs, instead of generic forearm tattoos. It's well worth the switch, because it works 50 times better than search engines.
Nobody can make you get inked with generic forearm tattoos, but this ensures you don't make that mistake.by Adam Woodham

Tips For Preparing For the Burning Man Festival

You may have heard about this yearly festival called "Burning Man". It takes place out in the Nevada desert every year, in late August to early September. A temporary city springs up in the middle of nowhere. The festival is dedicated to art, expression and self-reliance. Before heading to Burning Man, here are some things you should know:
If you are going to create a camp, register your camp at the main Burning Man web site beforehand. When you get there, you can then put your camp on the map.
The festival or tent city pops up in the middle of a flat desert area, where winds can be very strong, so it is important to build a strong shelter. As self-reliance is an extremely important aspect to Burning Man, it's crucial to take care of all of your own trash. There are no trash cans or trash collection services, so for all of your trash you must bring trash bags or other trash receptacles so that you can take the trash with you when you leave. Also, it's important that for any items you bring, whether food, costumes, art or other supplies, that you take care of these items and try not to bring any extraneous decoration or other items that could blow off easily in the wind. You are even responsible for what you burn, and must take care of the ashes and remnants that go along with that. So bring plenty of supplies for cleaning up this type of mess. In addition, consider the type of food and drink that you bring. Bring food that cleans up more easily and does not result in an inordinate amount of trash and waste.
Your camp will be your home for the duration of the festival. It's important to make sure it is safe and stable. Also, take care of all your supplies, chairs, food and trash. Keep all your stuff secured and well contained.
Bring plenty of water as the only items available to buy on the playa are ice and coffee.
Personal basics to consider taking to the festival include: Lip balm, sunscreen, eyewash or eye drops, saline nasal wash, ear plugs, q-tips, toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, towels, wash cloths, toilet paper, tweezers, nail clippers, nail file, soap and lotion for dry skin.
Clothing you should consider taking to the festival include shorts, pants, socks, underwear, sunglasses, sweats, raincoat or poncho, boots, sandals, jacket, t-shirts, basically a good range of warm and cool weather clothing. It gets hot in the day and cold at night on the playa.
More items that might be helpful include flashlights, first aid kit, rope, bicycle, duct tape, disposable camera, bandana or face masks to protect you from dust.
Shelter and camp related items that you should consider include a tent, air mattress, sleeping bag, lantern, rugs, eating and cooking utensils and plastic cups.
Items you should not take to the festival include glass and glass containers, dogs, cats, pets, wastefully packaged items or gifts for trading.
Finally, the most important things to bring with you are an open mind and enthusiasm for the experience. by Lydia Quinn

The Balance Between Beat Making, Creativity & Copyright Law

Let me say straight off the high hat that creativity & copyright law do not make instant bedfellows! Within beat rap there is a tendency to sample, which is both quick & easy, versus "copyright ownership" highly focused on what may constitute theft. The discussion can veer between litigation on the one hand and ignorance on the other. The basic problem is how to objectively measure how much of the remixed song "borrows" from the original.
One of the current stumbling blocks to licensing copyright (and thus incentive to copy without paying) is administrative overhead and cost. Recording licenses can be obtained at a flat fee normally ranging from $100 to over $10,000. This is countered by royalties to recording owners of between 0.5 cents and 3 cents per track sold. 15% of the original new work's musical composition copyright might be assigned to the original author, and if extensive looping and reuse is employed, up to 66% may be allocated.
Non paying sampling artists have two current defense strategies that they can deploy: de minimis and fair use. De minimis is the most commonly used defense as it claims that the re-use is basically trivial and therefore does not amount to infringement. The definition of "trivial use" is normally very vague and courts can resort to using ordinary lay listeners in an attempt to untangle the issue! Fair use on the other hand can employ open parody using the justification of "social purpose" based on intended criticism or commentary.
If you really want to circumnavigate the whole copyright issue and can read music AND you are feeling the funk then Public Domain Music may be worth a look. Who knows, maybe you get an IDEA from this? Any composition (not sound recording) copyrighted before 1922 in the USA may be used without limitation. Unfortunately there is no "international copyright" so you will have to delve into your local copyright laws if outside the US.
All of this of course distracts from the intended aim of being creative. Admittedly legality only really gets in the way of creativity when enough money is involved! If you sample Pink Floyd and then distribute it widely then the chances of litigation go up. Everything should be based on an idea (the thing that makes you go) in the first place. If you add sounds later that alter your original framework or concept then that's just the way things go!by John Clokie

Access to Unlimited Royalty Free Hip Hop Beats

Hip hop has grown exponentially in the last decade or so. Radio stations all over the world promote the latest hip hop artists. For all those hip hop lovers out there trying to cash in on this trend where originality is key you will need a source of hip hop beats that are relevant to the present time not beats that would have been played in the 90's. Then a resource like beats 365 could be more than you need.
Aspiring rappers
If you want to be a rapper or an upcoming hip hop producer you will need some royalty free beats so that you can lay your tracks down without owing anybody royalty fees. Don't use other rappers beats as they will take you to court. Remember vanilla ice and his problems with death row records?
Polishing your rhyming skills
Practice makes perfect. The best way to polish your rapping skills is to have access to high quality royalty free beats so that you can focus more time on rapping not making beats. To stay relevant with the times you need to rhyme over instrumental beats that are hot today.
Choose from a wide selection
You need a resource that has a wide selection of royalty free beats to choose from. Most sites that provide beats nowadays have a limited about of beats. You need a resource that has as many available beats as possible to spark you creative juices.
Many Styles/Genres Some sites that provide hip hop beats online only have a few genres or styles to choose from. It's best to go to a site that has a large selection of styles so that you can be sure to stay relevant in different genres.
Affordable Most of the sites out there provide beats as per download. As you download more beats the price adds up. You need a resource that provides unlimited downloads for an affordable price. Rappers feel me on this one as studio fees can be expensive.
Who would benefit from this resource? · Rappers creating their first album. · DJ's who need instrumentals for parties. · Video editors who needs background music for their videos. · Web publishers in need of Background music for their websites! by Vincent Mwangi

Learn to Be a DJ and Move the Crowds

Learning to be a DJ is not as easy as you may think, because it's not just about technique and learning to use the equipment. It's a wonderful job that takes many hours of practice and an expert knowledge of the music scene. Being one-step ahead of your chosen music genre is one of the most important factors and should not be understated.
When I first started out flexing the wheels of steel, I would take any job at anytime, sometimes paid and other times for free. Getting your foot in the door while gaining valuable experience is how we paid our dues in the industry. I always found Dance/House as a good place to start, because the music was produced to mix, so matching Dance rhythms is a good starting point. Don't get me twisted, you still need to understand the right way to do it, because a good House DJ is a master at whipping the crowd into a frenzy and that can be the difference between a good night or a bad night for the punters. Good House DJs are the best out there and extremely adept at reading a crowd. I always found mixing Hip-Hop and R&B the most difficult, because the tempos can be so contrasting and the beats less stripped down than in the days of old school. You have to have a real good ear to mix Rap or any other slower paced music because there are fewer margins for error. I was lucky because I found a mentor early on in my career that took me under his wing and taught me this business is all about what the people want. Some DJs stick to their guns and only play what they enjoy. This defies logic, as you are being paid to make people dance and enjoy themselves, so they must always be the number one priority, even if it means buying and playing tunes that are not your cup of tea. If you are dedicated and skilled enough, your possibilities are endless and especially with the cyber age which provides you with a larger potential audience via podcasts and MySpace. Promoting yourself is easier than ever before, and taking advantage of the new technology is the ideal way to get new gigs and get your name out there. In my time as a DJ, I travelled to many different countries, had my own radio show and naturally progressed into running my own recording studio and actually producing the tunes. The options are limitless and the industry is addictive to the point of completely consuming. I didn't become a DJ to catch women (some do), but they do fall at your feet as if you are a messiah, and let's face it, we are! My tip to you is to gain as much experience as possible, because this is the only way to learn how to read a crowd while under pressure. Always start your set with the slower tunes and build up to a crescendo, uplifting the crowd as you move along, because once you have started to drop the big tunes, there is no going back!by Alan Wass

A Few Things You Must Know About the Pentatonic Scale Fretboard

If you are looking to add that extra flavor to your chords for a great blues or rocky number, or just to learn how to play the guitar, you must learn more about the pentatonic scale fretboard. Even though the pentatonic scales tend to predominantly touch the minor notes, it does not contain all of them. The pentatonic scale fretboard contains only 5 notes for each octave, and the formations are easily movable over the fretboard.
One of the most confusing things about the guitar scales andPentatonic Scale in particular is the fact that the major and the minor scales have the same patterns. However through the learning and application of the theory behind these scales much of the confusion disappears and the road is paved to what is undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable past times there is.
Some Tips About Using These Scales
Let us begin by equipping you with some information as to how to play with these notes on the pentatonic scale fretboard. This information is also applicable for other guitar scale modes, but is particularly relevant to the pentatonic scales.
First of all, choose a note to begin with for example G. The interlocking pentatonic formations have the "1" pattern as the basic formation of the scale. This formation includes all the notes close to the root note on the selected pentatonic scale.
For your Pattern "1", find the fret on the lower E string that contains the scale note. The notes for the selected pentatonic scale would be the notes on this fret. This means with pattern "1", the G scale will contain the notes G, C, F, A#, D and back to G. Try to play the notes of the pentatonic scale fretboard and feel the flavor.
Similarly, there are many other patterns that you can study to produce the notable difference in the resulting sound. The pentatonic scale fretboard patterns are quite similar for the major and minor scales. Using the pattern 1, you can produce both G major and E minor tones. It all depends on the scale that you will look to use. by Dene R Lingard

5 Killer Tips For Photographers Wanting Better Results - Adults

How many times have you heard, 'don't take photos of me I look awful!' This is a very common problem with the fact that as a rule adults really don't like to be photographed. It is a fair cop because they are probably not as good looking as they might have been in years gone by! So how does one get through this barrier with the average adult?
1. Shoot a little higher than eye level. This is an old Hollywood trick if you shoot from a slightly higher angle that usual then the subject will be lifting their head a little and the angle is more flattering. It is also good to raise any lights a little too because it will cast a shadow under the subject and in turn reduce the effect of any double chin they might have. It is great it the subject is looking up as well because their eyes a fully open and engaged.
2. Light soft. What I mean about soft is to use reflected or diffused light. I very often point a light into a corner of a room and this gives me the same as 3 soft lights at different angles. Providing the reflective surface is white this works really well. If shooting outside I would almost certainly use a diffuser on my flash head as well. Soft light is flattering to anyone if used well, I would recommend experimenting with soft light to get an effect that suits your style and stick with it.
3. Hands. I love to use hands in adult portraits. Hands are a part of our body that we use all the time and they are always active. To include them in an image follow the rule that they need to be holding something, supporting something or pointed horizontal or upright. If you see the subject's hands in this way it will liven up your portraits and they will seem more alive.
4. Pose forward. Used sensitively this will transform an image of someone from a slouching slob to a dynamic go-getter. By this I mean I was once charged to photograph the chairman of the large company. This guy was a very successful man and certainly a mover and shaker in the world of law. However he was also a large gentleman. To photograph him sitting down in a chair would have crumpled him up and made him seem large. In contrast I perched him on the corner of his desk slightly side on looking back to the camera. Using the same principle it is easy to get someone to lean forward onto something and shoot from the side.
5. Don't take too long. Adults are not really much better than children in this area, we always want to move onto the next thing and we do not like to wait around. Be ready and do not take too long. The best shots will be the early ones and the longer you go on the more tired the subject will get on the proceedings. I would advise anyone that is photographing adults to make every image count because it could be the last!
The photography of adults is rewarding because if you can get people to feel good about themselves they will build your business and reputation for you. Remember people want a likeness of themselves not a reality. Make them slim, young and dynamic and you will be taking really great looking adult's photographs in no time. Go on have a god you never know until you try. by chris bamber
